POLICE officers in Andover and across Hampshire have been presented with commemorative medals to mark the Platinum Jubilee.
On Thursday (June 16), Chief Superintendent Raj Kohli presented two of the the Test Valley Rural Police team with their medals. Posting to twitter, he said: “Lovely to meet Katie and Spiros of Test Valley Rural Police and present them with their Op Mix badges and Jubilee coins. Katie is a qualified social worker and Spiros used to manage pubs and they are now top Hampshire Police colleagues with the world's biggest smiles. Thank you both!”
The Andover Police team responded: “Thank you to Chief Superintendent Raj Kohli for presenting us with our coins this morning- it was a pleasure to meet you!”
The special commemorative medal is being awarded to serving frontline members of the police, fire, emergency services, prison services and the Armed Forces.
Acting as a token of the nation’s thanks, the Platinum Jubilee Medal follows a long history of awarding medals to mark Royal Jubilees, with the first one awarded to mark the 50th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s reign in 1887.
The Platinum Jubilee Medal has been designed by Timothy Noad of the College of Arms and features an image of The Queen with the Latin inscription ‘Elizabeth II Dei Gratia Regina Fid Def’ which stands for ‘Elizabeth II, By the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith.
