AN ANDOVER man has been forced to pay more than £600 after flytipping in Upper Enham.
On April 7, Scott Campbell of Winchester Road, charged someone £30 to take away their waste but, instead of disposing of it properly, dumped it in the countryside.
At Basingstoke Magistrates' Court, Campbell was ordered to pay £604 in fines and costs.
Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) received reports of the fly-tip in April 2021 and when the environmental services team went to clear it up, they found evidence that led to the owner.
They contacted the lady in question who said that she had employed Campbell to remove the waste from her garden. Instead he dumped the items, which included an old carpet, ironing board, sun lounger, garden furniture, flooring and other household waste in Green Drove.
Posting to Facebook, TVBC leader Cllr Phil North said: "I hope this case sends out another clear message that we don’t tolerate fly-tipping in Test Valley. I would also urge anyone who comes across someone offering waste disposal services to check that they are licensed.
"In the world of social media we see so many adverts from different people offering a huge range of different services, and it is vital that people check to make sure that they are legitimate rather than being taken in by unscrupulous cowboys such as Scott Campbell."
