A YOUNG radio presenter from Andover will be presenting on a national radio station this week, it has been announced.
Luis Wyatt will be standing in for another presenter on Saturday night (July 9) hosting the dance show on Virgin Radio Pride UK.
The 19-year-old attended Winton Community Academy, where he got his first taste of radio broadcasting. He spent most of his spare time in a storage cupboard that had been converted into a radio studio.
Luis said: “I remember no other students having an interest in it and being the only one with the broadcasting bug!”
After leaving Winton he progressed onto local station Andover Radio. Just one year later he won the ‘Best Male Presenter’ award at the Community Radio Awards 2020, which is a national awards show.

One judge said: “If you told me Luis had been on air for decades, I wouldn't have questioned you. His style is engaging and cheeky. If I were a programme manager, I'd be poaching him immediately!”.
Since then, Luis has presented shows on a number of radio stations in Hampshire, Wiltshire and Surrey.
After Luis graduated from The Global Academy, a media college based in London, he got his big break on commercial radio joining huge names like Graham Norton and Chris Evans on the Virgin Radio Pride line-up. Luis returns to the station this Saturday night standing in for another presenter to host the dance show.
The award-winning pop up station, set up by Virgin Radio, is back this summer by popular demand with a schedule jam-packed with the best pop music from the last 20 years, plus all the biggest talking points from the community in one big celebration of LGBTQ+ culture.
Luis continued: “I can’t wait to get back on Virgin Radio Pride this Saturday. I remember I used to listen to Chris Evans on Radio 2 every morning on my way to Anton School. To think I am now going to be on the same station as presenters like this, that I spent my childhood listening to, is super exciting!”
Currently Luis plays a big part in the regeneration plan in Andover. He presents online videos for InAndover by Andover BID, which promotes the town centre businesses.
Residents may also recognise Luis from being crowned Carnival Prince in 2012, hosting events such as the town Christmas light switch-on, or doing a 24-hour radio show for Children in Need.
This month Luis was also announced as co-host of the Pride Of Andover Awards 2022 joining TV star Jordan Wylie.
You can listen to Luis’ show on Saturday from 10pm till 12am anywhere in the UK online at virginradio.co.uk, via the Virgin Radio app, or on DAB Digital radio in London and Scotland.
