Summer in Hampshire is finally here and one of the best ways to cool down is to treat yourself to an ice cream. We asked our readers where the best place to pick up an ice cream is in Andover.
Canto Gelato
Canto Gelato is soon to be expanding over the country, however its original store in Andover is a favourite amongst locals. A huge range of flavours are available from traditional flavours to adventurous types such as ‘Apple Pie Gelato’. Topping choices are endless, including popping candy and fresh fruit. Their menu extends to waffles, pancakes, milkshakes and speciality ice creams such as sundaes and splits.
Better yet, their packaging is biodegradable or 100 per cent compostable, so you can enjoy your ice cream in an environmentally-friendly fashion.
One Google reviewer said: “Highly recommend. There is a huge variety of gelato flavours, including some favourites and some different, special flavours (vegan too). The crepes and waffles have plenty of toppings on them and are made with a smile. Friendly, happy and helpful service. I will certainly be working my way through the delicious menu. A must visit!”
Prego Deli
Prego Deli is an Italian restaurant in Stockbridge and while their pasta dishes are a hit with the locals, the ice cream is also not to be missed.
They offer six Italian gelato flavours: cappuccino, pistachio, vanilla, chocolate, mint chocolate chip and strawberry. For coffee lovers they also serve affogato, a traditional Italian dish where you pour an espresso over a scoop of ice cream.
One couple on TripAdvisor visited and said: “Ice creams were delicious would highly recommend this place lovely warm and welcoming hosts will definitely come back.”
The Travelling Cupcake
On top of their original cakes and bakes, The Travelling Cupcake is a great place to stop and get an ice cream. Selling ice cream, frozen yoghurt and sorbet with a range of different flavours as well as vegan options.
Found on the High Street, this bakery accommodates to all, stocking diverse products, with their ice cream being a new edition to their already extensive product list.
A reviewer on Google commented: “A beautiful cosy lovely little place; visit, chat, feel the love, taste the goodies, enjoy and tell your friends. It really is a hidden beauty.”
The Peat Spade Inn
This gastropub on Longstock Road serves some adventurous ice cream flavours, perfect for an after-dinner palette cleanse.
A TripAdvisor reviewer mentioned their unusual flavours and said: “Desserts looked equally good - I can recommend the unusual ice-creams (I chose black sesame seed and coconut flavours; there was a good range of more traditional flavours too).”
Other reviewers have mentioned ginger and pistachio ice creams also to choose from.
Jenny’s Café and Restaurant
Jenny’s has been in Andover since 2005 and continues to serve the local community to this day. During the rare moments of hot weather, Jenny’s can cool you down with their sundaes, choose from strawberry and chocolate flavours for only £4.50.
One Google reviewer said: “Great food, great value. I have very much enjoyed coming to this restaurant and have been many times. The quality of food is always brilliant and service is friendly and polite.”
