AFTER a three-year break, the much-awaited Andover Carnival is back on Sunday, July 17 at Vigo Park.

The carnival will include a funfair, various stalls including some from local businesses and performances from local talent lasting through to the evening.

The events, however, do not stop there. The much-anticipated return of the community procession will start at 4pm, with floats will leaving Weyhill Road and will continue through Beech Hurst, Bridge Street, High Street, Eastern Avenue and will reach Vigo Park at approximately 5.30pm.

Notices on road closures and the weather have been put out in order for the festivities to run smoothly and for the community to enjoy the event on the day.

On Sunday, July 17 there will be road closures from The Drove to Mylen Road between 12.30pm to 5pm. Mylen Road, down Weyhill Road and through to London Road will be closed from 3.30pm to 7pm. London Road down to Bachelors Barn Road will also be closed between 4pm and 8pm.

The current predictions for the temperature on Sunday is 30°C. The event organisers are advising carnival-goers to bring plenty of refreshments (no glass is permitted in the park), wear sun cream, wear a hat and find shade if you can.

The committee has also agreed that gazebos can be bought along by guests as long as they are pitched along the edge of the park and do not obstruct the main areas; marshals will be around to check with you before pitching.

The procession between 4pm and 5.30pm will include Icknield School, Portway Infant School, Wallop Primary School, Vigo Primary School and Knights Enham School.

Watch out for The Tea Cosy’s Volkswagen Beetle ‘Tea-Adora’ who will be providing transport for the Pride of Andover’s winner of the Inspiring Others Award, Dani Lou Kiely at the front of the procession.

Jollypop Entertainment Ltd will also be providing entertainment with their amazing cast of characters.

The carnival’s events and festivities are put on in support of local causes and charities. This year Andover Carnival raising money for Andover Twenty1, a local charity supporting children with Down’s Syndrome and their families.

Remember to bring some cash and coins to drop into the collection buckets. There will also be QR codes on the day to donate money electronically.
