THE M3 was closed by police while they dealt with an incident.
Hampshire Constabulary said they closed the motorway northbound at Junction 7 Basingstoke in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A diversion was in place via the A30.
A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 3.24am today (17 July) to a report of concern for the welfare of a man in his 20s near Junction 7 of the M3.
“Both the northbound and southbound carriageways were closed while officers spoke to the man.
“He was eventually detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act and was transported to hospital.
“Both carriageways were reopened by 7am.”
Our #trafficofficers attending the closure on the #M3 both ways between J6 and J7 near #Basingstoke in #Hampshire advise all road-users caught in the closure have been released. Delays currently of about 5 mins in both directions approaching the closures. Diversion running well.
