AN Andover couple has raised hundreds for a biker relief charity in memory of their friend.
Clive and Nicky Bates set up the Gofundme page in memory of their friend Lewis Honey, who sadly died in a motorcycle accident 10 years ago.
Nicky, 53, said that the couple were inspired to set up the fundraiser on Clive’s 60th birthday.
She explained: “We were just trying to think what to do, something a bit different because everyone does cancer research and things, so we just thought let’s do something a bit different.
“So, I Googled biker charities to see if there were any biker charities in the UK, and actually there was, so on the back of that I set up the just giving page.
“And the rest, as they say, is history!”

At time of writing, the fundraising page has managed to collect £800 in donations.
Nicky said that she felt the total is “amazing”.
She continued: “I thought, even if we get £100 for charity, because it is an unusual one, people are more likely to give to cancer and things, so I set the target at £100.
“I got my husband to read it, before it went live, and then, because he’s not sure how to do these things, he donated the first £100!
“But we’ve been away for his birthday weekend in Devon, and it wasn’t until we got back last night and saw that total, it’s absolutely phenomenal.
“£100 is great, but to raise that amount is just phenomenal.
“My husband and him were very close, they were very sort of jokey, jovial, happy lads, and it just felt really fitting to remember him on my husband’s special day, really.”

Nicky wanted to thank everyone who has contributed to the fundraiser, saying: "Thanks to everyone who has contributed and will continue to contribute.
“If it makes a difference to one family, then we’ve done our job.”
The money will go to the British Biker Relief Foundation.
BBRF is a charity that supports motorcyclists and their families after serious and life changing injuries after motorcycle road traffic accidents.
The support that the charity offers includes grants, physiotherapy, mobility aids, counselling, children’s materials, funeral payments and more.
