A BRITISH Army soldier from Amesbury is among hundreds of racers competing in the British Superbike event in Thruxton from August 12 to 14.

Stephen Thomas, who has been living with his family in Amesbury for the past six years, is supported by the army as an Elite Sportsman in motorcycle racing.

The 30-year-old runs his own independent race team involving his family members.

Stephen said he is excited to compete locally in front of his family, friends and sponsors.

“It looks like we're gonna have some fantastic weather this weekend down at Thruxton,” Stephen said.

“Maybe a little bit too hot for myself. But I'm sure the spectators will chuck on the sun cream and enjoy an ice cream or two watch the bikes.”

Stephen’s wife is a detective at Wiltshire Police. The couple has an eight-month-old baby.

His racing team includes his family members, including his brother who is a mechanic.

Stephen added that the Thruxton race will be a fun, friendly and family atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

“When I go to races, it is competitive and it is a very serious place. We've got goals that we're trying to hit. But that doesn't mean we can't have fun at the event.

“It's really good to enjoy the racing world and have my family there as well and get them to experience it because it's not every day.

“It’s also a great opportunity for local sponsors to physically come down and see what the British Superbikes is all about and see what they're supporting. And that's one of the best things to be able to share – the experiences with the sponsors. They aren't just getting the commercial brand awareness which they get all around, but they're actually enjoying the experience of coming down to Thruxton and seeing for themselves, what we are up to and experience the bikes and the environment.”

Stephen will be competing in the British Supersport 600 class.

Known as Tommo#21 in the racing world, he has been competing in motorcycle road racing since 2017.

Despite missing 2019 due to a military deployment, Stephen has so far won two club level 600cc championships and claimed x3 class lap records.
