A COMMUNITY group based in Andover is planning to lead children and young people in a procession in Harmony Woods as part of UN’s International Day of Peace.
Andover Trees United will hold the event from 9.45am to 11.30am on Wednesday, September 21.
This is an event that Andover Trees United has celebrated alongside education programme ‘Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots’ every year since 2018.
Andover Trees United will again be hosting a peaceful procession in the woods next week to mark an important day of unity and peace.
It is the first event leading to Andover's Climate Days of Action and Great Big Green Week co-ordinated by Andover Vision.
Dr Jane Goodall is a UN ambassador for peace and world-leading primatologist, who founded the global youth organisation, Roots and Shoots. Every year Roots and Shoots invites schools and youth organisations from around the world, such as Andover Trees United, to take part in a UN Peace Day procession.
The International Day of Peace is observed globally each year on September 21.
The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace and this year invites us, through the theme “End racism. Build peace”, to join their efforts to work towards a world free of racism and racial discrimination.
If you would like to join, whether as part of the procession or to help on the day, email: alex.marshall@andovertrees.org.uk
