A HAMPSHIRE sports club is organising a football game on Sunday to raise awareness of mental and physical health of men.
Solent Sports FC, which is considered the biggest recreational football club in Hampshire, is organising the game at the ground of Kings’ School in Winchester.
Two Solent teams — Andover and Winchester — will play each other at 12pm in an effort to raise awareness about playing football without fear of judgement and pressure.
Solent Sports FC has around 400 members across its teams in Southampton, Hedge End, Eastleigh, Gosport, Portsmouth, Hamble-le-Rice, Winchester, Havant and Andover.
Club chairman Steve Fletcher said Sunday’s game will be about raising awareness and spreading the word about the project.
“It is about giving men somewhere safe where they can play football without fear of judgement and pressure,” Steve said.
“Because we play like that, we've managed to grow really quickly. And that's why we have about 400 men each week playing football now.”
Solent Sports has just won the Hampshire FA’s best project award.
The Winchester team has around 40 members and they play at Kings School on Monday and Friday evenings.
The Andover team has 20 members and they play at Sports Academy at West Portway Business Park on Wednesdays at 8pm.
Steve said people are invited to join these teams and more details can be found on the website solentsports.com.
