THE colour of the roof tiles proposed for a bungalow in Highclere left plans in jeopardy - but major changes allowed for an extension to be approved.
David and Jenny Reynolds lodged an application with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for a first-floor extension of the their on Pantings Lane.
The application had previously faced objections from nearby residents over materials selected for use in the construction of the extension.

Particular attention was drawn to the colour of the tiles selected for the extension’s roof, as the original plan had listed blue slate tiles, which the parish council had objected to, instead asking for clay-coloured tiles.
At a meeting of the borough council's development control committee on September 28, Mr Reynolds told members that the tiles had been changed to a 'more suitable colour'.
He also reassured councillors that the amended design included obscuring glass to ensure that the privacy of the family’s neighbours was not infringed upon, and that the height of the extension’s roof had been shorted over fears that the original design would have blocked access to light for some neighbours.

Mr Reynolds told councillors: “I hope you can see we are committed to ensuring our development will have minimum impact on our neighbours, whilst offering a significant improvement to the property and the lane, and allow our family to thrive and contribute to the parish for many years to come.”
Committee members voted in favour to approve the application.
