Odiham and North Warnborough launch campaign to help you save £500 a year

The Greening Campaign will launch on Saturday, October 9 as part of a Hampshire-wide initiative at Mayhill Junior School from 11am to 2pm where anyone can stop by.

The launch will invole interactive displays and demonstrations to encourage the community to save energy, money and reduce waste. 

This campaign is in response to a community vote in May and June where more than 1,000 people voted for eight easy actions everyone can take to reduce energy consumption. Currently, these steps are expected to help people save £500 every year, however this number could fluctuate.

Angela McFarlane, chair of Odiham Parish Council, said: "The Greening Campaign is all about the power of community. Small actions each of us can easily make - like turning down the thermostat by one degree - make a huge impact on our carbon emissions when they are repeated across a parish.

"At the moment, they also make a difference to household energy bills. So we are asking residents to take the actions the community voted for and display their Greening Odiham and North Warnborough card to encourage each other to take part."

A card listing the changes resident previously voted for will be delivered to all households in Odiham Parish after the launch event, or if you need a spare one you can download a copy. 

The council has advised people display their cards somewhere visible in their home between October 31 and November 7 so it can be calculated how much CO2 is being saved. If your house is not easy to see from the street, display something green at your entrance to show you are a part of the campaign.

At the launch this weekend people also have the oppurtunity to talk to a specialist from The Sustainablity Centre in East Meon with infomation on ways to reduce your carbon footprint at home
