ANDOVER Town Council has unveiled plans to extend the area its Christmas lights cover.
Councillors agreed at a meeting of the community and events committee on Wednesday, October 19, for a structural survey to go ahead to determine whether lampposts which currently aren't utilised for the festive display can be used.
Contracting business Enerveo will undertake the survey of the remaining lampposts in the town centre and car parks.
Currently, there are 26 used for Andover Christmas Lights. This is likely to be extended to more than 60 from next year.

Once the survey has been undertaken and a report received by the town council, the Christmas Lights Working Group will meet to consider the extension of the provision of the light for recommendation to the community and events committee.
The current contract for Christmas lights will end after this year’s event.
The new contract, for 2023 to 2026, will be sought based on a plan for extended lights. This will also mean the town council will need to allocate a bigger budget for the lights from next year.
The committee meeting also noted that this year’s Christmas lights switch-on will be held on November 25. The lights will be installed on November 20 and 21, while the tree will arrive on November 15.
