RESIDENTS of an Andover suburb are hosting a Halloween-themed scavenger hunt for members of the public, based on an event that started in lockdown.

The Picket Twenty Halloween Hunt will take place on Friday, October 28 near Quicksilver Pirate Playpark from 3pm to 5pm.

The event was started by residents of the suburb during the Covid pandemic lockdown in 2020 as a way for families to spend time together outside.

Now the residents are expanding the event and are inviting members of the public to take part.

Aimed at children, the Halloween Hunt takes the form of a scavenger hunt, with youngsters tasked with locating different Halloween decorations set up around the neighbourhood.

Each decoration will feature a hint to help participants find the next one.

In addition to the Halloween Hunt, the event will also feature a range of side stalls and activities for all the family to take part in.

Child minder Rachel Nicolson, who is helping to organise the event for the first time, said: “We’ve got a stall where you pick a lolly out and if it’s the right colour, if it’s got a coloured end, then they get to keep the lolly.

“There’s also a pumpkin punch thing with paper cups and you have to punch through the tissue paper to get the prize.

“We are also doing feely boxes with different gross stuff in that the kids can put their hands in and feel what’s in there.”

Alongside these attractions are other traditional stalls and games, including guess the name of the teddy, guess how many sweets are in the jar, both cake and crafts stalls and a public storytelling reading of Room on the Broom at 3.45pm.

Entry to the event costs £1 per child, with the money going towards funding other events in the future.

The event is being sponsored by MP Landscaping, while warm dessert trays will be served by Mini Mogs Ice Cream.

Rachel said that the event’s organisers are hoping to attract more visitors this year, beating the current record of 84 children.

She added: “Last year I think it was 84 children who did the hunt, but this year we are hoping for more. I’m definitely excited about it, it’s good fun.”
