PLOUGHMEN and women will showcase their skills at a competition in Sutton Scotney this weekend.
The annual Stockbridge Growmore Club Ploughing match is taking place on Saturday, October 29.
Held this year by permission of Sutton Manor Farms, the competition will see 47 ploughmen and women take to the fields in Sutton Scotney. The ploughing match will commence at 9m and finish at 1pm.
Tractors and ploughs both old and new will take part, with a new class this year for horticultural tractors.
Two new shields, supplied by Test Valley Trophies in Andover, have been donated by local machinery dealers C&O Tractors, for the best work in the Ferguson class, and by Haynes Agricultural, for the best work with a New Holland, Ford or Fordson tractor.
The site will be signposted from the A30 between Stockbridge and Sutton Scotney, just as it crosses the A34 bridge.
Entry is free and refreshments are available. The public are reminded however that big machinery will be operating, and care needs to be taken when on site.
