STAFF and pupils at an Andover primary school received a special visit from the town’s MP earlier this month.
MP for North West Hampshire Kit Malthouse met with Year 4 children Vigo Primary School on Friday, November 4, who have been learning about democracy and parliament.
The visit provided the children with a great opportunity to ask questions about his role in parliament and his journey to get there.
Mr Malthouse commented that he was impressed with their questions and the way they listened to his answers.
Mr Malthouse also met with headteacher Julie Bray, assistant headteacher Kelly Roach and chair of governing body Marty Johnson to discuss the journey the primary school has been on and the changes that have been made. They also discussed the local area and the future of education nationally.
Mrs Bray said: “The visit by Mr Malthouse really supported the children with their learning on democracy and they now have a much clearer understanding of the role of their local member of parliament.”
Mr Malthouse said: "I was certainly put through my paces by the bright and enthusiastic Year 4 pupils at the fantastic Vigo Primary School; it was a joy to answer their questions about our democracy. I hope to see them play an important part in our local communities and politics in the years to come."
Year 4 pupil Michael added: “It was really exciting because not many people have met a famous person. He’s important because he is our member of parliament. He taught us about how democracy works.”
