AN UNKNOWN person has knitted a wreath full of poppies and placed it in the hands of Andover’s iconic Millennium Man.
The iconic statue, situated next to the roundabout at the junction of Salisbury Road and Weyhill Road, held the wreath as part of the Armistice week.
Sharing a photo of the Millennium Man with the wreath, Test Valley Borough Council leader Phil North said: “It’s great to see that Millennium Man has been yarn-bombed for the first time since his reinstallation - holding aloft a wreath full of poppies.

“A reminder to everyone that passes him this week of both the horrors of war and the sacrifices made for our freedom. A huge thank you to whoever knitted and installed it. Lest we forget!”
Created by artist Claire Norrington, the statue was first erected in 2000 to mark the new millennium.
In recent years, it has become a much-loved part of the town, and a piece of public art.
The statue had been toppled several times by anti-socials, most recently in October 2021. It was reinstalled this year by TVBC.
