A Wiltshire police dog is looking for a new home after retiring from the force.
PD Dax has been working for the police for almost two years and has helped many people in that time.
The manager of Wiltshire Police's dog unit, Ian Partington, said: "He has had quite a short service but has had some success. He has done some good things."
On his first-ever shift, in June 2021, Dax located items hidden after a burglary in the Ludgershall area.
Tracking people down became a speciality for Dax. After he sniffed out a burglary suspect in Tidworth, Wiltshire Police claimed: “there is no hiding from this big guy. The nose knows”.
Suspects couldn’t hide from Dax, but they couldn’t run either. In March, 2022, Dax caught a Trowbridge man who tried to run away without paying for dinner.
But now PD Dax has turned in his badge and is looking for a new home.
Mr Partington added: "He's not suitable for police work long term because he needs a lot of attention.
"We're pretty optimistic about finding him a new home. We're looking for someone with experience with German Shepards who can be calm with him."
Those who are interested in adopting him can make an enquiry with the Wiltshire Police dog unit at Dogsection@wiltshire.police.uk.
