PUPILS at a school in Ludgershall enjoyed a very special visit to the Winchester Science Centre.

The pupils of The Wellington Academy blasted off into space, visiting the centre. Pupils at the school got their hands into all things science, including programming bots. 

The pupils had a fun-packed day, viewing space through the eyes of an astronaut on a test flight in the planetarium, as well as getting to test out a spacesuit. Pupils learned about sound, hearing and vibration, using the largest guitar in Europe.

Pupils commented on how the Planetarium was their favourite. The Planetarium is a full-dome film show that makes audiences experience flying through space and learning about the planets.  

Winchester Science Centre is a hands-on, interactive, science and technology centre and is a registered charity. The centre houses a range of interactive exhibits aimed at children aged 5-12 years old. Experts and students at the University of Southampton and Surrey University, alongside the centre, created the Bringing Research to Life centre.

A spokesperson for The Wellington Academy said: “The pupils were mind blown by the show and all of the exhibits at the centre. It was exhilarating for the pupils to see the science behind the world, as we know it. We teach our students to be inquisitive, to ask big questions, to challenge ideas and solve problems and a visit to Winchester Science Centre involves all of those aspects.”
