A COMMUNITY pool that holds a fond place in the hearts of Overton residents is raising funds to refurbish its facilities.

Lordsfield Swimming Club is leading the crowdfunding to improve the Overton community pool at Court Drove.

According to the club, the pool is due for a major refurbishment to keep it going for the next 25 years. 

The club aims to raise at least £55,000 through crowdfunding.

Kit Malthouse MP visited the pool last week in an attempt to highlight the crowdfunding efforts.

Speaking after his visit, Mr Malthouse said: "It was great meeting the team at the community pool in Overton. It’s a fantastic asset for the community and they are raising funds to refurbish and improve the pool — and literally keep Overton swimming. Please spare some cash if you can for a great cause."

Lordsfield Swimming Club, which was established in 1963, is hoping to replace the pool liner which has some small tears and leaks, as part of a broader project. 

The club said the pool, without the investment, would face closure within the next few years.

A spokesperson said: “A new pool liner costs in the region of £35,000 to replace – we don’t have a tiled pool, instead we have a vinyl liner that lasts for around 20 years. The pool liner replacement is one part of a larger pool refurbishment project that is planned for the closed winter seasons of 2022 to 2023 and 2023 to 2024 to minimise impact on our opening. 

“The project will be a major undertaking for our membership and community. We currently have £85 000 in our reserves earmarked for the full project. The money has been raised through membership fees, fundraising events and donations from individuals and from local companies like Editorial Office, as well as grants from the parish council, county council and other organisations. 

“We are continuing to apply for grants and run events to reach our greater target and we have now stretched our initial target to £55 000 to help us reach this broader goal with your help.”
