A STRIP of freehold land fronting a residential street in Thruxton which was set to go under the hammer was sold before going to auction.

The 0.07-acre plot in Beech Close, which had a guide price of £20,000-plus, was among 141 lots listed in England by Clive Emson Auctioneers, regional land and property auctioneers, during an auction on Wednesday, March 22.

However, before the auction, it was purchased by an unknown buyer.

Mike Marchant, a senior auction appraiser with the firm, said: “A buyer came forward before the auction and made an offer to the vendor which was accepted.

“This unusual strip of freehold land fronts onto Beech Close, a residential street in the attractive village of Thruxton, and we anticipated keen interest because of its location.

“We are not privy to any plans the new owner may or may not have.”

The strip of land included gated pedestrian access to the site from the adjoining pavement in Beech Close. To the rear of the site lies George House, formerly The George Inn.
