A VETERANS charity from Andover has been awarded £70,000 by ITV and The National Lottery People's Project.

Veterans In Action, who were the only veterans charity in the running for the People's Project, had been appealing to members of the public for their votes to receive significant funding towards what they do.

The support for the charity was overwhelming and having received a significant amount of votes, were awarded £70,000. The People's Project is a scheme where over £4 million of National Lottery Funding was up for grabs for community groups across the UK.

The Peoples Project is put together by The National Lottery Community Fund, The National Lottery, ITV, UTV and the Sunday Mail in Scotland in the chance to give the public a chance to decide how National Lottery funding should be put to good use in the local area.

Groups competed for a share of up to £70,000. The Peoples Project 2023 saw 80 community projects from across the UK, with Veterans in Actions ALIVE (Achieve - Learn - Inspire - Value - Experience) project being shortlisted with the chance of winning the £70,000 through a public vote.

Veterans in Action Charity member, Billy MacLeod MBE said: 'I would like to thank everybody who has voted for us, it really means a lot and your support is what keeps us here and able to provide ongoing support to our veterans and helps us to help them, by providing peer support, physical, mental and social wellbeing as well as a safe place to grow and harness skills.

Veterans In Action have steadily grown since its conception in 2008, receiving charity status in January 2009. Throughout that time, the charity has developed many projects that make up the ALIVE Programme.

Veterans In Action will continue to develop their ALIVE Centre and the projects within situated on the Hampshire and Wiltshire border to provide a ‘safe environment’ for those taking part in ALIVE.
