WHITCHURCH Silk Mill is preparing to hold its first-ever open garden event to help raise money for the endangered craft of silk weaving.

The Whitchurch Open Gardens event will be taking place on Sunday, July 2 from 1pm to 5.30pm. 

People from Whitchurch have created a patchwork of hidden gems with trees, grass lawns, natural hedges and more. 

Now some of these unique gardens will be showcased to the public for the first time to help raise money to help the endangered heritage skills at Whitchurch Silk Mill.

Nine gardens will open to visitors as part of the Whitchurch Silk Mill Open Gardens Trail.

Visitors can tour a Mediterranean-inspired garden, a hot zingy garden, a woodland garden and many more. 

The silk mill will also be showcasing its popular willow den designed by Katherine Lee Garden Design.

The opening has been supported by a volunteer team working with Katherine Lee Garden Design, Jo South Artworks and Whitchurch residents who have opened their gardens to support the Grade Two Star listed Regency Watermill.

It is hoped that the event will bring garden lovers to the town and the mill.

Admission is £10 for all Whitchurch Gardens and can be purchased online or at the mill on the day.

Tickets may also be purchased at some of the gardens taking part in the day.

Gardens can be seen in any order and a walking trail between them will be available for visitors from the mill on the day.
