THOUSANDS of residents have attended the Army Flying Museum's annual fundraising festival.

The Wheels and Wings event will be taking place on Saturday, July 1, at the museum in Middle Wallop.

The museum, and the adjacent Army Air Corps airfield, saw aircraft, motorcycles, classic and supercars descend for the third Wallop, Wheels and Wings event, attracting a sell-out audience of more than 4,000 visitors.

The event also saw the Apache Helicopter make a static guest appearance, with visitors able to get up close to the aircraft and chat with some of the crew.

There were many classic and supercar clubs in attendance, spanning more than 100 years of motoring including the Lotus Club, Ferrari Owners’ Club, the MX5 Owners Club and the Jaguar Drivers Club.

Top vehicles went before a panel of judges including Mark Dixon, Deputy Editor of Octane Magazine, in a Concours D’Elegance, with the winner a 1954 Daimler Conquest Roadster.

Children were kept entertained at the event with replica historic pedal planes, inflatables, dressing up, circus skills, medal making, laser tag and a STEM trailer brought to the event by sponsors Rolls-Royce plc.

A shopping village showcased the products of local traders, with visitors able to treat themselves to food and drink from the River Test Distillery, New Forest Shortbread, Homemade Brownie Company and more.

There was also a range of flypasts by classic planes during the day, including the only airworthy Lancaster in Great Britain from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight as well as a flypast by a Navy Wings Swordfish in the afternoon and a duel flypast by the Rolls-Royce Heritage Flight.

Wallop Wheels and Wings 2024 is set to return on July 6 next year.
