AN Andover café will be closing its doors for good following a rise in running costs.
Tubs Café on Weyhill Road has announced on Facebook that it will close its doors for good on Monday, July 31.
The news comes after PowerCycle, the bike shop the cafe is located inside, said it will be stopping the retail side of its business as of July 31. It will continue to run as a repair service.
A post on Facebook reads: "As of 31/07/23 The retail side of PowerCycle will close its doors with all remaining stock to be sold. Tubs Cafe will also close its doors.
"This has been an incredibly tough decision to make but buying trends have completely negated the need for retail establishments such as ours and quite frankly removed the possibility of sustaining the ever-increasing overhead. That in turn has taken any element of enjoyment out of what should be a fun business to run. The recent break-in and ongoing battle with the insurance company has I’m afraid to say dealt the final blow.

"However, all is not lost. Moving forward the service and repair side of the business will continue and grow with a move to a service-only facility. We will continue to operate that from Weyhill Road until our new premises are ready. Our experience and capability on everything from ebikes to custom build race bikes is I believe unrivalled. We’ll provide after-sales and warranty on all bikes previously supplied by us as well as any other brand of bike.
"Will is pleased to continue with his one-to-one personal training/coaching plans with fitness assessments and bike-fitting also available."
A post on Tubs Cafe Facebook reads: "As you will see from the PowerCycle announcement, we deeply regret having to inform you that Tubs Cafe is closing this Saturday. Unfortunately, the cost of insurance, rise in costs and continued competition with the internet means that the retail side of PowerCycle in the current location will cease as of 1st August and as a result there will no longer be a premises for Tubs Cafe to trade.

"We want to say a huge thank you to our suppliers and customers for their loyalty and support over the last 3 years. It has been an absolute pleasure to serve amazing coffee and cake to you all. Ray, Edward, Isla and myself wish you all lots of health and happiness for the future."
Tubs and PowerCycle were contacted for a comment but did not want to add anything else.
