A man has been arrested for five offences after leading police in a car chase through three South Wiltshire communities.
Officers first attempted to stop the vehicle on the Tidworth Road in Ludgershall during the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 29. After failing to stop, the vehicle led officers on a chase, driving dangerously at speeds exceeding the limit and going through red lights.
After leaving Ludgershall, the chase continued through Tidworth and into Bulford, where police were able to set up a stinger site at Bulford Camp to subdue the vehicle, which stopped on the A303.
The driver, described by police as a male in his mid-20s, then attempted to flee on foot before resisting arrest. The man was tasered and arrested for dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving with no insurance.
The man was also arrested for drink driving, after a roadside breath test showed his alcohol content to be 89 micrograms per 100ml of breath, more than twice the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
Following a search of the vehicle, a small amount of suspected class A drugs were located in the vehicle and the driver was further arrested for possession of a class A drug.
As of Wiltshire Police’s announcement of the incident at 2.54am on August 29, the suspect remained in custody at the Gablecross Police Station in Swindon.
