AN ANDOVER businessman has found himself in the latest list of tax defaulters released by the UK Government.
Mevlut Bilgic has been named in the list for failing to pay more than £75,000 in taxes.
The tax default, totalling £75,704, occurred during Mr Bilgic's tenure as the operator of a Wimpy franchise in Andover, specifically between April 6, 2020, and April 5, 2021. This franchise was located at 75/77 High Street in Andover.
As a consequence of his tax default, Mr Bilgic has been ordered to pay a penalty amounting to £64,348.

When contacted by the Advertiser for comment, Mr Bilgic explained that he encountered financial difficulties “following the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic” and “a lack of proper oversight” from his previous accountant.
Mr Bilgic said: “I am fully aware of these issues and have taken corrective measures by engaging a new accounting professional who is currently addressing the matter through a structured payment plan while working towards finalising the outstanding figures.
"It is worth noting that the past four years have been particularly challenging for my business, primarily due to the severe impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent economic crises. Despite these challenges, I am committed to addressing my debts responsibly and have no intention of pursuing bankruptcy or similar drastic measures.”
Andover Wimpy closed earlier this year.
Envy Eatery and Lounge opened in June. Mr Bilgic is a part owner of the business.
