CHILDREN and staff at an Andover primary school were 'locked down' after a nearby incident was reported to the police.  

Endeavour Primary School, in Augusta Park, Andover, brought students in from lunchtime early as a "precautionary action in response to advice given following a nearby incident" on Friday, October 13. 

A parent, who did not want to be named, told the Advertiser that the school also cancelled an after-school fair and 'locked down' children in an after-school club.

When asked about the lockdown, a spokesperson for the school said: "On Friday afternoon (13 October), the children had to be brought into class slightly earlier during their lunch break.

“This was not related to any in-school incident or to children’s behaviour; it was simply a precautionary action taken in response to advice given following a nearby incident. All children and staff were safe throughout and in class learning in the usual way.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “We haven't been called by the school in relation to any lockdown. However, I can confirm that we did receive a call from the school on 13 October in connection with an incident nearby.”

Police were unable to provide further details about the incident. 

Endeavour Primary School is a co-educational state school for children aged 4-11.

The school is split across two campuses - the King Campus in East Anton Farm Park Road and the Kirk Campus in Dairy Road - at the Augusta Park development in Andover.
