Broughton Floral Club recently enjoyed an open evening with a national demonstrator as host. 

 On Wednesday, November, Michael Bowyer hosted a demonstration called ‘Flowers for the Festive Season’.

Audrey Watts, from the club, said: “The first display was in a bucket, red Naomie roses, red carnations and white Helleborus were set off with various holly and ivy a loose display but most attractive.  

“A bird’s nest came second made from Mulhlenbeckia maidenhair twigs set on a posy pad. Noblis pine sprigs, euonymus, to name just a few, silver fir cones were the base for white spray chrysanthemums, Leucadendron, white spray roses and three white nerines. Festive bling was also added.

“Michael’s third display was a large urn filled with copious foliage, tall red antirrhinums, and red roses. Hydrangea heads nestled between a very full display and very festive when baubles were added. A smaller identical display was added set at the bottom of the urn.

“A basket of silvered fir cones and birch silvered birch logs was the setting for a beautiful monochromatic display of variegated pittosporum, scutellaria stems, brachyglottis and pale mauve spray roses finishing with silvered grasses it really looked mouthwatering.

“A hand tie in green came next starting with myrtle, pittosporum, spray hellebores, green chrysanthemums, dracaena, gerberas, and natural coloured ting-ting.

“A tall silver display took us all by surprise it contained silvered birch twigs, pussy willow, silver sprayed asparagus ferns, tall white carnations and white roses. To complete a white peacock was place at the bottom of the container. What a joy.

“Lastly an urn was host to lonicera stems, spotted laurel, fir stems, spray carnations, double and single chrysanthemums with yellow gerberas, a very festive finish to the evening.

“Sadly, I have not mentioned all the foliage used as Michael used so much throughout his demonstration. It is always a treat to have a national demonstrator for the evening, but as usual Michael was superb.”

The meeting on December 6 is a Workshop called ‘Anything for Christmas’, 7pm for 7.30pm.
