LUDGERSHALL Town Council bestowed the honour of ‘Freeman Of The Town’ to local hero, John McConnell BEM.
For years, Mr McConnell has devoted his time to Ludgershall, supporting the local community whenever required and volunteering his services.
The skate park, which now stands on Ludgershall recreational ground, is one of Mr McConnell's contributions, brought to life by rallying a group of local people to plan and petition its creation.
Mr McConnell's dedication is further displayed in his maintenance of the centenary garden, an area of Ludgershall particularly treasured by its residents. He is known to have spent countless hours meticulously tending to the gardens.
Mr McConnell also spreads the spirit of Christmas by donning the red suit and white beard to spread Christmas cheer throughout the town.
The award was presented on March 16 by vice chair Cllr Mick Williams and chairman Cllr Owen White, at a ceremony celebrated with heartfelt speeches, followed by grace from Rev Peter Howson.
A spokesperson for Ludgershall Town Council said: "Thank you for all that you do ‘Mr Ludgershall’ your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed. This was certainly seen at your award ceremony with many guests arriving to raise their glasses to you, with Daniel O’Donnell himself stopped mid-tour to send you a heart-warming video message, kindly organised by your good friend Cllr Deirdre Lillywhite."
