Leslie and Tim took on the village store and Post Office in Enham Alamein nearly 20 years ago.
Speaking about the service, she said: “The dedication service was the most amazing experience. It is pomp and ceremony of the biggest order, but it was just amazing and such a privilege never having been to St Paul’s Cathedral either.”
The Order of the British Empire was established by George V in 1917 to reward outstanding contributions to the war effort.
It now recognises the work of people from all walks of life, with well-known honours such as MBEs and OBEs, as well as Knighthoods and Damehoods.
