Cllr White said: “To be able to play even a small part in paying tribute is humbling and a great honour.
“After the huge amount of planning that went into this operation, the courage and the sacrifices that were made on D-Day after the nation had endured six years of war, with hope of lasting peace of Europe, it is our duty to keep their Legacy of this momentous landing alive.”
On Saturday, June 8, the town council has organised a Party in the Park, also at the recreation ground, which will include a range of activities.
People can enjoy inflatable football darts, a military agility course, tug of war competitions, a dog show, stalls and children are invited to wear their best fancy dress.
There is also music on throughout the day, which will run from 2pm to 8pm.
