MORE than 3,000 spectators cheered on 16 teams of wacky racers at the second Andover Soap Box Derby on Sunday, June 2.

Organised by Andover Community Events, the event, held on Hopkinson Way at East Portway Industrial Estate, turned out to be a huge success with funds raised for Andover Foodbank.

Andover Advertiser: All the action from Andover's Soapbox DerbyMatt's engineering talents were on display as both winning cars were his handiwork, and one of them had even participated in the derby's inaugural run in 2022.

"This was a good opportunity to make something and have fun while doing it, so I thought why not," Matt told the Advertiser, attributing his victory to "a bit of luck and not using the brakes!"

DH Property's soapbox took the first prize in the corporate entry category.

Organiser Kevin Rush described the atmosphere as "incredible" and expressed pride in the successful completion of the event.

"It was a brilliant day," he told the Advertiser.

"Sixteen teams turned up and everyone went down twice, safely, although we had a few hiccups.

"The weather was amazing and it was an absolutely beautiful day. We all had a lot of fun."
