The 21-year-old told the Advertiser: “I was over the moon to hear Andover was having its inaugural Pride!
“As well as the beautiful outpouring of excitement for this event, I’ve also seen some disgusting comments on social media. This just shows just why Pride events exist and how vital they continue to be, especially in smaller towns like Andover where there is less representation and people can feel alone in how they’re feeling.
“Everyone in our community have had their separate journeys, but I know for me I went through a lot of my teenage years feeling incredibly out of place and confused.
“An event like this would have massively helped me feel like there were many others feeling the same. I really hope this event can bring the local LGBTQ+ community together this year and hopefully many years to come.”

He continued: “I’m looking forward to being part of this celebration of the progress that’s been made as well as recognising the challenges that some of the LGBTQ+ community continue to face. Let’s have a big gay party… see you there Andover!”
The event, hosted by the Mayor of Andover and the Andover Town Council, along with its partners - Test Valley Borough Council, Andover College, InAndover and Andover Mind - will take place in Pocket Park behind Town Mills.
The event is the first of its kind to be held in the town and will be free to attend, and will take place from 12pm-6pm.
Andover Pride 2024 plans to bring together the LGBTQIA+ community as well as allies and supporters, "for a colourful afternoon of good fun, great music, and entertainment".
There will be face painting, badge-making, a drag queen, and the opportunity to purchase uniquely designed badges and wristbands, alongside other activities including an InAndover trail.
