CHARLTON Village came together on Thursday, June 6 to pay tribute to the heroes of D-Day, the pivotal Second World War invasion that marked the beginning of the liberation of Europe.
Held at Charlton Lakes, the event offered a mix of historical remembrance and contemporary celebration.
Around 350 visitors were treated to a fascinating display of modern bomb disposal equipment, even getting a chance to try it out themselves under supervision.
Although a military aircraft flypast was planned, it had to be cancelled as the Battle of Britain planes were grounded. But on the ground, static displays provided a closer look at military hardware.
Food, drinks and music were available, creating a festive atmosphere.
The official ceremony commenced with the lighting of the Charlton Beacon at 9.15pm.
Proceeds from the event were proudly split between the Armed Forces charity SSAFA and Charlton Village Community Association.
