A MAN from Ludgershall has been fined for assaulting a police officer, leaving the victim with a black eye and a cut.

Thomas Cuss, 41, of Short Street, had officers visit his property on May 10, 2024, due to reports of disorder and assault.

Cuss tried to prevent officers from entering his property and punched one of the attending officers in the face, causing a black eye and a cut near the officer’s eye.

He was fined more than £1,300 for assaulting an emergency worker, and obstructing officers from carrying out their duty.

The fine was £750, and he was ordered to pay £300 victim surcharge, £85 in costs and £200 in compensation.

His sentencing took place on Thursday, June 13 at Salisbury Magistrates' Court.

PC Will Hammond said: "We will not tolerate assaults upon our officers and staff or other emergency services workers and will, with the support of the courts, robustly bring to justice those who assault the protectors of our communities.

"It is never acceptable for officers, staff, or volunteers to be assaulted as they undertake their duties to protect us all from harm."
