Two of Shakespeare's beloved comedy classics are coming to a Fuller's pub garden in Stockbridge this summer.

Following an Offie-nominated spring production, Open Bar Theatre returns with performances of The Tempest and Much Ado About Nothing.

Since 2016, Open Bar has entertained audiences with their informal, 'groundlings' style performances, making Shakespeare enjoyable and accessible to everyone.

This season promises to be filled with laughter, magic, and unforgettable performances.

This summer’s shows will showcase the magical tale of shipwrecks and sorcery in The Tempest and the witty and romantic comedy of Much Ado About Nothing, filled with misunderstandings and mischief.

Audiences can anticipate a dynamic, music-filled adaptation delivered by a small, energetic cast who take on multiple roles, ensuring a truly immersive theatre experience.

Co-artistic directors Nicky Diss and Vicky Gaskin shared their excitement for the summer season.

They said: "We are incredibly excited to bring The Tempest and Much Ado About Nothing to life this summer, especially after our recent Offie win.

"Fuller’s has allowed us to create a theatre of high quality focusing on diverse casting and creative storytelling."

Open Bar's unique approach includes updating classical plays' satire to suit modern tastes and performing with a high-energy style encouraging audience participation.

This has resonated particularly well with contemporary audiences who appreciate the opportunity to relax with a drink and be entertained.

Their in-house casting process emphasises inclusivity and representation, featuring unrepresented actors, and performers from working-class backgrounds.

Director Nicky Diss added: "There is no fourth wall in an Open Bar show, we never pretend the audience isn't there.

"This summer’s performances will be filled with direct dialogue with the audience, bringing the humour, wit, and magic of Shakespeare’s words to life."

The company’s productions have garnered extensive praise, with Broadway World describing their shows as "laid-back, immersive and thoroughly entertaining".

Gyles Brandreth lauded the company’s versatility and talent, tweeting: "Is there a more versatile theatre company in the land?

"I doubt it."

Open Bar's Stockbridge performances will be staged at Mayfly, on August 15 and 16.

Each show will begin at 7.30pm.
