Wallop, Wheels and Wings: Army Flying Museum holds annual fundrasier

Wallop, Wheels and Wings, at the Army Flying Museum, Middle Wallop, also had spectacular displays from helicopters and planes, food stalls, charities and more. 

Along with more than 300 classic/super cars and motorbikes, the event also showcased the Model Aircraft Club, military vehicles and a special D-Day display including a Horsa fuselage and living history re-enactors Ham & Jam. 

Army Flying Museum chief executive and event organiser Lucy Johnson estimated that more than 4,000 people attended the event on Saturday, July 13.

She said: “We're delighted with numbers and we're delighted the rain stayed away. It's not too hot, so it has been a brilliant day so far. This is our annual fundraiser and we're bringing together over 300 supercars, classic cars, motorbikes and combine those with what we're all about which is aircrafts. So we have 40 wonderful aircrafts flying in and new this year is some air displays.

“We've had about 4,500 people here today. The key thing is that the money we raise from this goes straight into the work of the museum. Museums are tough to make profitable anyway, all museums are struggling so every single penny that we make from this goes back into the museum to keep us doing the work we do and preserving our heritage.”

Lucy added: “We've had such a busy year - we've had the Apache go in and we've just finished a refurbishment so at the moment we're just enjoying seeing growing visitor numbers and really trying to engage a wider audience. 

“Everyone seems to be having a wonderful time and what I love is that people always say it's such a friendly event. We keep it small, we're conscious of what we can do as a museum team and we want everyone to have a wonderful day.”
