AN aviation museum is gearing up for a packed programme for the summer holidays.

Experiments, creative craft activities, eco-friendly workshops and fun trails will be at the Army Flying Museum near Middle Wallop this summer.

The holiday activities will offer six weeks of creative craft sessions with their new exhibit, the Apache AH Mk.1 helicopter on full show.

In addition, the museum has organised a packed programme of summer fun for visitors all included free of charge in the annual pass visitors receive when booking tickets.

There will be some therapy goats from The Three Bees Project on Thursday, August 1.
Genie Lab will be back on Tuesday, August 6 with more science experiments to amaze visitors of all ages, or why not get your hands dirty and connect with nature with Spaces for Growing on Tuesday, August 13 and discover the ancient craft of wildflower seed bomb making.

On Tuesday, August 20, the team from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust will be in the museum’s newly rewilded Memorial Garden.

Activities include an invertebrate safari using bug pots and sweep nets to discover what invertebrates are living around the museum grounds, along with exploring what plants are growing with visitors able to make leaf prints to take away using a method called happa zome.

On August 8 and 25, the museum invites people to come along and try their hand at making and painting a plastic model. With lots of models to choose from including vehicles, history, fantasy or storytelling, people will be guided by the charity Models for Heroes and will take home a model after the session to remind them of their visit.

The museum has several creative trails taking place throughout the summer holidays along with the regular dress up stations, jigsaws, interactive exhibits and of course, the opportunity to sit inside the helicopters within the museum.

The outdoor play park and picnic tables also give visitors the chance to see some amazing aircraft flying in and out of the historic Middle Wallop airfield.

Lucy Johnson, CEO of the Army Flying Museum, said: “We always enjoy offering a variety of free family activities during the school holidays, which gives visitors real added value for their annual passes. Everyone that visits the museum only has to pay once to get a free annual pass, so they can come back as often as they like throughout the year including all the school holidays.”

All holiday activities take place on weekdays from 10am-12.30pm, however for the full programme, dates and timings, visit armyflying.com.
