A WOMAN from Andover has raised almost £2,000 after taking part in an exhilarating challenge to raise money for Stars Appeal to thank them for the support they have given her family.
Clare McGinn, 43, took part in a wing walk in Shaftesbury on Friday, July 26 to raise funds for Salisbury District Hospital Stars Appeal.
She said: “My dad is not too well and has been in and out of Salisbury District Hospital for a few years and he’s always had the best care there - and they’ve helped my family.
“My mum really wanted to raise money for the charity, it was her 80th this year and she really wanted to do it. My husband booked it for her but she developed a condition in her neck which meant she couldn’t do it.

“It was booked so we deferred it, not knowing what to do, and I basically said I’ll do it for dad and mum and raise money for the charity. That’s why.”
The wing walking experience involved standing on the wings of a biplane for 10 minutes while it completes flypasts and manoeuvres.
Before the flight, Clare said: “When I was 18, I did a sky dive in Australia, but I don’t know why that felt completely manageable. These days, I hold the bags at the fair or at Walt Disney World. I’m a real scaredy cat!
“It’s all about doing it for the charity – it’s not for my personal gain, it’s my mums bucket list not mine!”
