A CLUB which originally had the intention to stage just one event will celebrate its 250th performance later this month.
WEOS, which is now operating under the banner of Music at HeART, is marking its 22nd year, with a performance by an artist who helped to launch the club by performing its very first concert in July 2022.
Guest player will be Nicholas Martin BEM, from Leicester, making his twelfth appearance for the club. He who was guest artiste for the club’s 100th and 200th concerts.
A club spokesperson said: "It therefore seems more than appropriate that he should be invited to perform on this notable occasion."
In 1981 Nick was offered the post of resident organist at the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool – at just 17 – and went on to play there for seven days a week during the 1981 and 1982 seasons.
Another major highlight of Nick's musical career was an initial offer in 1985 to perform in concert on the West Coast of Florida. Since that first visit he has continually been asked to return and has made well more than 30 trips across the Atlantic, where he has performed to large audiences.
Another facet to Nick is his commitment to charity work. He has two sons who are both afflicted with autism and their condition inspired him and his wife Marianne to found a charity in 2001 to help autistic children and their families – a charity the club has supported on many occasions.
Nick is the main fundraiser for the cause, collecting donations at many of his musical engagements, and for his charity work in the local community, he was awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s New Year Honours list in 2015.
The concert is being staged at the White Hart Hotel, Bridge Street, Andover on Thursday, August 15, commencing at 7.30pm, with the concert room opening at 7pm.
Tickets priced at £8 (including interval refreshments) can be obtained in advance from the hotel and, subject to availability, at the door on the night.
