FOUR teachers and a governor of a school in Andover have taken to the skies in a heartfelt tribute to a cherished colleague and to raise funds for a hospice.

The courageous team from Vigo Primary School decided to skydive in memory of one of their school governors, Jemma Perkins, who recently died at Countess of Brecknock Hospice.

The skydive, which they did on Sunday, July 21, saw teachers Miss Askwith, Miss White, Mr Holms and Mr Hodgson, and governor Mr Gold freefall from thousands of feet, facing their fear of heights to support the hospice that provided care and support to Jemma and her family during her final days.

The funds raised will go directly to the hospice, helping it continue to offer vital services to those in need.

Jemma joined Vigo as a school governor six years ago and worked incredibly hard for the school and children until she had to step down due to her ill health.

Unfortunately, Jemma lost her fight with cancer last month.

“We are incredibly proud of our colleagues for honouring the memory of Jemma in such an incredible way,” said Rachel Dance, headteacher at Vigo Primary School.

“Their dedication to supporting the Countess of Brecknock Hospice reflects the values of our school community. We hope this skydive inspires others to contribute to this essential cause.”

The Countess of Brecknock Hospice provides outstanding palliative and end-of-life care to adults with life-limiting illnesses in Andover, Stockbridge, and the surrounding villages.

The hospice relies on community support to continue its work, which includes inpatient care, hospice at home services, a day centre, and outpatient clinics.

“We are deeply moved by the efforts of the teachers and governor from Vigo Primary School,” said Michele Gard, charity director at Countess of Brecknock Hospice Trust.

“Their bravery and generosity, especially in memory of their colleague, will make a significant impact on the lives of our patients and their families.”
