THE council has responded to a resident's complaint about overgrown weeds, saying work to treat the situation is "scheduled for next week."

As previously reported, Nick Mackey, 53, who has lived in Turin Court, off Roman Way, for more than 20 years told the Advertiser that he is "fed up" that the "out of control weeds and bushes" have not been cleared away, despite reporting the issue to the Aster Group whom residents pay a maintenance fee to, for the upkeep of the facilities.

Nick continued: "Every year the weeds become overgrown and every year I have to report it to Aster and they'll eventually come down and spray a bit of weed killer."

Nick is frustrated with the fact that even though residents are paying for the upkeep of the area, they are not seeing results.

He said: "We pay a monthly fee, it's not big, but it all adds up and we are all paying it to have the grounds maintained, but it brings into question what are they doing with the money if they aren't dealing with this?

"It doesn't make it a nice place for people to want to live, and it really is an eyesore."

The Aster Group responded and said: "We’ve sent members of our estate team out to investigate our customer’s concerns.

"Their visit has confirmed there are overgrown weeds on the land and paths we own, and on land and paths owned by the local authority.

"We have arranged for the weeds on the land and paths we are responsible for to be cut back and treated this week."

Now, Hampshire County Council has also provided a response to the situation, stating it has scheduled the work for "next week."

A spokesperson said: "We are responsible for treating weeds on highways land under our management, which includes paths, and we conduct an annual spraying programme using specialist, accredited contractors.

"This week our teams have been active in Andover, with additional work scheduled for next week. The impact of this treatment takes a few weeks to become visible.

"Private landowners are responsible for weed maintenance on their properties."
