ANDOVER College lecturer Dean Carpenter has once again been selected to appear in a nationwide television campaign on Sky Sports.

The promotion, which is airing from mid-August through September 1, is aimed at encouraging professionals to bring their prowess to the education sector.

Representing the 'Teach in FE' campaign, Mr Carpenter, a construction skills and bricklaying Further Education (FE) teacher at Andover College, is sharing his personal experience of transitioning from industry to teaching.

He previously appeared in the campaign in 2023.

The campaign, co-produced with Sky Media, uses the Premier League’s Transfer Window as a creative metaphor for skills transfer, and is delivered in the distinctive 'breaking news' style associated with Sky Sports News.

Mr Carpenter is being joined by Sky Sports presenter, Mike Wedderburn, and is hopeful that his participation will prompt more individuals to mull over part-time teaching in FE.

This would give industry workers a chance to impact lives without having to change careers entirely.

FE teachers play a significant role in nurturing the talent needed in various sectors.

Sparsholt College Group, which Andover College is part of, alongside many other local further education providers, capitalises on the experience of former industry workers to provide instruction in a wide variety of subjects.

These include construction and bricklaying, engineering, manufacturing and motor vehicle.

Mr Carpenter said: "I became a further education teacher as I wanted to transfer, excuse the football pun, my skills to the next generation. This is my way to give back to a sector that I have enjoyed working in for 32 years. Having transferred into FE teaching, it is extremely fulfilling to support the growth of the next generation of talent looking to enter the industry, Now I have a chance to pass on my knowledge to at least 50 students every year – it is a privilege to have a direct impact on so many lives.

"I’m proud to be supporting this campaign and raising awareness for the opportunities the further education sector offers to industry professionals. Becoming a further education teacher is easier than you think, you don’t always need prior teaching qualifications or an academic degree to start. So, if you are someone considering if further education teaching is for you, I would just say – ‘Do it!"
