A PRIVATE livery yard in Penton Mewsey is opening its gates to the public as part of National Racehorse Week.

Harroway Stables, in Foxcotte Lane, specialises in the retraining and in a few cases rehoming of retired racehorses.

Run by international showing judge Lucinda Sims, the stables are giving people the opportunity to meet retired racehorses, enjoy a schooling demonstration, take part in a hosted yard or stable tour and have their questions answered.

The event will take place on Sunday, September 15, between 11am and 3pm, but people must register.

There are currently 12 racehorses at the stables headed by Zarkandar and Balthazar King.

A post on the National Racehorse Week website from Harroway Stables says: "We pride ourselves on the care and attention each horse gets allowing them time to fulfil what ever potential they might have."

Also hosting an event during National Racehorse Week is Mildmay Farm and Stud, just north of Whitchurch.

The farm and stud usually has 50-60 horses ranging from broodmares and their foals, through to yearlings being prepped for the sales, to injured and resting racehorses out of training.

Visitors will be able to meet the mares and foals, enjoy a hosted talk and Q&A on Wednesday, September 11 between 2pm and 4pm.
