Rookwood School in Andover has named a new headteacher this term.

Paul Robinson has joined Rookwood after serving as acting head of Beaulieu Convent School in Jersey, where he oversaw a diverse student body of more than 750 girls, aged 3 to 18, and boys in the Sixth Form.

With previous leadership roles at Ardingly College and St George’s College, Weybridge, where he served as assistant head, Mr Robinson brings a wealth of experience and passion for education to his new position.

“My journey into educational leadership was driven by my volunteering experiences while I was at university and as a young adult," Mr Robinson said.

"The opportunity to shape and support a school community and impact students' lives positively was incredibly motivating.”

Sharing his vision for Rookwood School, Mr Robinson praised the school’s commitment to its motto, ‘dare to know,’ and its core values - Ambitious, Safe, Personal Growth, Integrity, Responsibility, and Emotional wellbeing (ASPIRE).

“These values align closely with my own educational philosophy,” he said.

“I am particularly enthusiastic about fostering a culture of ambition and personal growth, helping students develop resilience, and guiding them to achieve their dreams.”

He added that he wants to create a learning environment at Rookwood where students feel safe, ambitious, and supported in their personal and academic growth.

He is focused on embedding the school’s values in every aspect of daily life, encouraging innovative and inclusive learning experiences, and promoting a sense of community.

“By fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, I hope to inspire both students and staff to strive for excellence and embrace lifelong learning,” he said.

Looking to the future, Mr Robinson spoke about the importance of equipping students not only with academic knowledge but also with vital life skills such as critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and adaptability.

“My aim is to create a school culture where students feel valued and motivated to excel,” he said.

“This will not only foster their personal growth but also strengthen the wider school community through shared goals and values.”

For students, Mr Robinson’s advice is simple yet powerful: embrace challenges and view them as opportunities for growth.

“Don’t be afraid to take risks and step out of your comfort zone,” he said.
