The Chantry Centre multi-storey car park in Andover has been temporarily closed following an incident on Sunday morning (September 15), when a car struck a wall near the Shopmobility area, causing damage to the structure.

In response to the accident, Test Valley Borough Council quickly removed all vehicles from the car park to ensure public safety.

The council has confirmed that the car park will remain closed until specialists inspect the damage and assess the building’s structural safety.

"We are making sure the necessary checks are carried out as soon as possible," the council said in a Facebook post.

"The car park will reopen once we receive confirmation that it is safe to do so."

In the meantime, the council has directed the public to use alternative car parks within the town centre.

Chantry Centre permit holders will be able to use their permits at any of the other council-run parking sites until the multi-storey facility reopens.

The council thanked the public for their understanding and praised its staff and town centre rangers for their quick response to the situation.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will provide updates when we have them," the council added.
