The UK’s new Chief Scout, TV presenter and adventurer, Dwayne Fields says he’s looking forward to personally presenting Scouting Awards when he visits the town and has praised Andover’s community spirit.
Mr Fields took up the post earlier this month and said: “This is such an honour. I’d like to say thank you and well done for all our Scouts do to support their local community. I’m really looking forward to visiting Andover to meet all the Scouts.”
Mr Fields added: “Scouts gave me belief in myself as a child, when I needed it most, and I want others to get the same chance I did. I want us to reach across communities and welcome in as many young people as we can.”
In Andover there are 14 Scout groups, that include Squirrels, from ages four to six, Beavers, aged from six to eight, Cubs aged eight to 11, Scouts 11-14, Explorers who are between 14-18 years old and Network, 18 - 24.
Mr Fields said: “The Scout Group in Andover are helping young people do all that and more. I truly believe Scouts is for all. Let’s help volunteers and Scouts from every background to experience the freedom of the outdoors and the friendship we offer. So well done to every Scout and volunteer in Andover. You’re champions of our community.”
