A school has officially opened its new sixth form building in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The Wellington Academy, in Ludgershall, officially welcomed students into its new sixth form building in September, ready for the 2024-25 academic year.
Tim Bunting, whose donation originally enabled Wellington College to support and sponsor the establishment of the Academy, joined headteacher Rob Wood to cut the ribbon.
Tim said: "If you can give pupils the full journey through a school, it will improve their life chances and opportunities. Sarah and I have been lucky enough to have supported over one hundred sixth formers on work experience over the last ten to fifteen years and they’ve all been fantastic.
"Having been a governor here for ten years, I know how hard teaching and governing is, and I would like to thank everybody who has played a part in making today possible. It is a real team effort.
”Mr Wood has been a big believer in the project since the very beginning, and I wish you all the very best in your futures at The Wellington Academy sixth Form.”
Wellington Academy offers both A-levels and B-tec qualifications to its sixth form students.
Rob said: “This building is a perfect place for our young adults to still feel a part of our Wellington family, but also allows them to have their own learning space.
“Thank you to Steve Elsey, who helped us lift this project off the ground with the help of our site team Sarah and Darren, who worked tirelessly with contractors to ensure that the building was ready for September.”
He went on to praise the sixth form team for their efforts to prepare the interior of the building ahead of the new academic year.
Rob added: “We were delighted to have had Tim and his wife Sarah officially open the sixth form.
“He has given so much of his time, resources and expertise. Without Tim, The Wellington Academy would not exist.”
Head of sixth form Mr Bissington said: “It is fantastic that our wonderful sixth formers now have their own centre. Whilst still being an integral part of the school this building now gives them their own bespoke environment to enrich their learning experience.”
