A DOG walking field which is deemed an "essential service" could be taken away if a retrospective change of use application isn't successful.

April's Farm, in Green Lane, Andover, submitted a retrospective planning application requesting the change of use of a field from agricultural land to dog walking fields on October 4, having made the changes without the correct permission.

The farm already uses the field for the purpose of dog walking, having installed hardstanding, fencing and gates, but was not granted permission to do so.

On October 13, a member of the public came out in support of the application, stating it is an "essential service" in the area.

Rob Williams said: "I completely support this application, this is an essential service provided by April's farm, we have a large group of huskies that need this sort of environment for socializing and exercise, it provides a secure and stress free environment for the dogs to exercise and provides total security for dogs and owners to enjoy.

"I can see no reason why this shouldn't continue and I cannot see any negative impact at all.

"This is an essential service which is local, convenient and provides a great area for dogs and owners to enjoy a beautiful setting for exercise and socialisation.

"To lose this would have a very negative impact for a huge number of people in Andover and would result in extra time and travel to find another suitable area."

Alistair McMurray, of Hampshire County Council, said: "Following review, the Highway Authority is satisfied that the proposal would not lead to any significant impact on the safety and efficiency of the public highway network and no objections are raised."
